Uses
The most important use of oxygen is in breathing. Oxygen is of great importance in the iron and steel and chemical industries. One of the major uses of oxygen is in steel production. Oxygen is utilized in medicine in the treatment of respiratory diseases. Oxygen is also mixed with other gases for respiration in high-flying aircraft, submarines, and spacecraft. It is used as an oxidizer in the fuel systems of large rockets.
Although more nitrogen is produced more compared to oxygen, the largest single usage for atmospheric gases remains the use of oxygen for cutting and welding of metals. Large scale applications for oxygen, which can justify the installation of an on site plant, include steel making, paper making, refining of metals and oxidation processes in the chemical industry.
Oxygen is used with acetylene for oxyacetylene welding. Various industries where oxygen is used are as follows:
- Metallurgical Industry
- Brazing Industry
- Chemical and Petrochemical Industry
- Petroleum Industry
- Aquaculture
- Glass Industry
- Waste Management
- Iron Foundry
- Electric Arc Furnace
- Medical etc.
